Windows 8 Tablet Buyers Guide Needed
« on: October 15, 2012, 04:33:41 PM »
Hey guys, with 10 days till the release of Windows 8 I have been getting more and more involved in my tablet to buy search. But I need your help as i'm not much of a tech wizard so I don't know if the Tablet can do what I need it to.

Firstly it needs Windows 8 with the ability to run all of my windows programs. But my main concern, and this is where i'm in and out, is will the speed of windows 8 tablets be enough to do my normal PC activities which include, watching movies, web, all office applications, programs like Rosetta Stone, and a few games like Age of Empires and NFS.
As for HDD memory I mostly use external HDD's so storage isn't a big thing for me, but connectivity is huge. USB, 3.0 would be nice, HDMI, SD, MiniDisplay Port are the connections I use.
Solid battery life is also needed, 7+ would be nice and then with the keyboard adding an extra kick that would be perfect. So with that a keyboard that connects as well.
11in and up, 12in would be great for screen size but i'm not THAT picky if its not 1080p.
I know I have special requirements but that's what I love about Microsoft/Android, they see what the people need and make a product that meets those needs.
Hopefully my needs aren't too picky.
I know within this will be do I go intel atom processor or i5, again i don't know which would be able to handle my needs and give the best pay-off to battery life.
Or is all this too much and i'm better off buying a ThinkPad Twist?

Thanks for your advice and time, MUUCH appreciated! :)

Agreed big_will, as we continue to build out the site a 'buyer's' guide might be part of it.   Actually as the various Windows 8 tablets start to ship and get reviewed this entire site should become a buyer's guide of sorts.  The more contributions and discussion from forum members we get the better so thanks for your thoughts.  We'll know much more as we get our hands on shipping tablets. So stay tuned!
